Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in Houston, Texas and across 42 PSYPACT states.

What Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based treatment that helps people live more fully by focusing on three key psychological abilities: staying present, opening up to difficult emotions, and doing what matters. ACT is grounded in the idea that life can often be painful, and our minds will try to get rid of as much of that pain as possible.

However, the struggle to control this pain can often increase distress. Instead of trying to eliminate uncomfortable emotions, ACT helps individuals accept their pain, end the internal struggle, and move toward enriching and improving their lives.

ACT can help with:

ACT works for people who feel stuck in cycles of avoidance, negative thought patterns, or
overwhelming emotions. If any of these experiences seem familiar to you, ACT may offer a new way forward.

Through ACT, you’ll learn to make room for inner experiences that may seem impossible to handle right now. Through the pain, you will learn how to stay connected to what matters most to you. You will engage in your life proactively, leading with awareness, self-compassion, and purpose.

ACT is not about “fixing” you. It is a different approach that focuses on connecting you to what matters most, even when challenges show up along way.
