Experience
Beth Thompson, LPA, grew up in Tomball, Texas. Beth received her bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She then went on to pursue her master’s degree in clinical psychology at The University of Houston-Clear Lake.
During her training, she received clinical experience in outpatient clinics, residential, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. Her training placed a strong emphasis on cognitive behavioral therapy and other behavioral techniques. She completed her clinical internship in residential substance abuse treatment at The Women’s Home in Montrose, where she continued employment following her graduation.
After obtaining her license, Beth began working at The Orchard on The Brazos Recovery where she provided individual and group therapy. Beth provided trauma-informed care to those in early recovery. In this role, Beth was able to help people navigate one of the most challenging and vulnerable times in their lives by creating a safe and supportive space for them to address their underlying triggers. She also took the initiative of developing groups that were specific to the needs of individuals in residential care such as anger management, changing negative self-talk, and emotion regulation skills. These were often the residents' favorite groups and provided the foundational skills to help them manage their emotional needs.
Beth believes that in order to adequately address addiction and substance abuse issues you must also address underlying mental health concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and other emotional distress. She utilizes strategies from cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and assertiveness skills to help clients face life's challenges with confidence. She takes a collaborative, client-centered approach to treatment. Beth is empathetic and patient. She recognizes that every client works at their own pace and provides highly individualized care.
