Specialized Therapy for IBS and Chronic Digestive Symptoms in Houston, Texas
Regain Control
Reduce Pain
Restore Confidence
Living with IBS can feel uncomfortable and embarrassing.
You may feel like your body is working against you. You feel fine one moment and in extreme discomfort the next. You might find yourself constantly looking for bathrooms, overthinking food choices, or replaying past flare-ups in your head; wondering when it will happen again. Even on “good” days, you’re so worried about the next flare up that you can’t fully relax or trust your gut to function the way it’s supposed to.
You may have been told your tests are normal, that you should just manage stress, or that you need to figure out what to avoid. Over time, this can leave you feeling frustrated, dismissed, or blamed for your symptoms. Then you get stuck trying to figure out how to manage symptoms on your own. IBS isn’t just the physical discomfort. It takes up mental space, emotional energy, and can quietly limit how freely you live your life.
The good news is that IBS is highly responsive to treatment that works with both your digestive system and your nervous system. At The Coping Resource Center, you receive specialized, evidence-based therapy for IBS and gut-related conditions that helps you calm your gut–brain system, reduce symptom intensity, and regain confidence in your body. Treatment focuses on interrupting the patterns that keep symptoms going instead of ignoring them or pushing through.
With the right tools, you can learn how to respond differently to gut sensations, feel more in control during flares, and gradually expand your life again, without anxiety over your symptoms.
You don’t have to handle it alone.

IBS Is Not “All in Your Head”
IBS and other functional GI conditions cause very real physical symptoms like pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and urgency. Many people have had extensive medical testing only to be told everything “looks normal,” which can feel frustrating or invalidating.
What’s often happening is that the gut becomes overly sensitive. The digestive system has its own nervous system, and when it stays on high alert for too long, sensations feel stronger, more uncomfortable, and harder to ignore. IBS can emerge for a number of reasons but usually some combination of genetics, general sensitivity in that region, a history of infection, stress, or general gut inflammation play into the onset of IBS and other gut-related disorders.
Stress doesn’t cause IBS, but it can make symptoms louder and harder to manage. IBS in and of itself is also stressful, creating a negative feedback loop between stress and gut-related issues.
The Cycle Many People With IBS Get Stuck In
A lot of Clients describe something like:
- You notice a gut sensation
- Your mind jumps to “What if this gets worse?” “What if other people notice?”
- Anxiety kicks in
- Your body tightens, and your digestion changes
- Symptoms intensify
Over time, this can lead to constantly checking your body, avoiding certain foods or situations, and feeling like you can’t trust your gut anymore.
Therapy focuses on helping you to break this cycle with the right tools and techniques

Gut-directed hypnosis can help:

Gut-Brain Therapy IN TEXAS
Frequently Asked Questions About Gut-Brain Therapy
Is this the same as regular therapy?
Not exactly. IBS therapy requires specialized training in the gut–brain connection and nervous system regulation.
Will this cure my IBS?
There’s no guaranteed cure, but many clients experience significant improvement in symptoms and quality of life.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. Gut-directed hypnosis is evidence-based and doesn’t involve losing control or being “put under.” You are aware of what is happening and can control yourself similar to getting lost in a daydream.
What if I don’t think I’m very anxious?
That’s okay. You don’t need to feel anxious for this approach to help. It focuses on how your nervous system and gut communicate. The gut is often referred to as the “second brain,” and often these processes are not happening on a conscious level.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. We offer in-person therapy in Houston and virtual appointments when appropriate.
